Based upon the wear marks on the pilings
caused by our rub rails the surge at VBYC appears to have been around 6
feet.
The docks are badly damaged, (Drunken Docks). The landward dock is
badly torn up and the last 50 feet are tilted about on a 45 degree angel,
with the outside half of the slips unreachable except by boat (a canoe
worked nicely). The three boats on the end "T" (Manatee, Livin'n
Wright and Southern Star" were in reasonable shape all things considered.
They have some damage where they rubbed on the pilings. No sign of
significant leaks. The piling between slip 9 and ten was broken
loose and the boat in slip 10 was on the remains of the "T" with the boat
in 9 sharing slip 10.
One section of the "T" dock was completely broken loose and lying in the
water between Manatee and Livin Wright. It took Roberts, Ranson and
Caldwell about 1 1/2 hour to get it from between the boats and tied along
the remains of the South transient slip where it couldn't bang against the
boats and cause further damage.
Of course the dock water and power is completely destroyed.
If you haven't been able to get to your boat at the club give Roberts or
Ranson a call for an update.
The Club house had about 10-12 inches of water and mud in it. The
refrigerator and freezer were damaged and some interior wall were moved.
At first glance there was minimal exterior structural damage. The
grounds are littered with debris from trees,
My personal guess is that one or two months will be required to clean up
and repair the club and to reopen for normal operations.
