Grand Reopening: After a month and a half of hard work by member volunteers, staff and contractors, the Club's renovations were completed and the Club looks great. Many kudos to all who shared their time, energy and expertise during this process. Also appreciated were members and guests who enjoyed the Tiki Bar and outside patio, weather permitting, throughout the month of June. The Club's Reopening was celebrated on July 4, 2017, with a ribbon cutting ceremony at noon followed by an Open House for members from noon until 4 pm. A barbecue, dance band and fireworks followed in the evening.
Vero's Top Chef: 2017 was the first year that VBYC participated in the Vero's Top Chef Challenge. Congratulations go to our own Chef Bill Narhi, who took home the People's Choice Award. for his Breast of Pheasant en Croute. Congratulations Bill!
Please donate Teddy Bears: Over the years the Club has, through the efforts of the Shipmates, collected and donated teddy bears to the Indian River Medical Center. The bears are given to children being treated in the Emergency Room as well as older patients who may need something to help comfort them. You are always welcome to drop off teddy bears, suitable for young children, to the Club Office as they are collected and delivered to IRMC throughout the year.
Proud Adopters of Spoil Island IR25 - Boat Club Island: On July 1, 2016, VBYC became the proud adopter of IR25, a spoil island north of the entrance to Grand Harbor, just west of mile marker 120. It is part an active recreation island and part a conservation island. Club members were excited about adopting this particular island because in the 1960s and 1980s Club members, along with members of the Boating Club of Vero Beach, held cookouts and other fun events on the island. In addition to cleaning the island six times a year, members are working on removing invasive species. In the near future Club events will be held on Boat Island.
Club Boat: In June 2016, the Club purchased a 20' Pontoon Boat with 70 horsepower 4 stroke Yamaha engine. Before the boat was even docked at the Club, members had already purchased 230 days of boat fun. There was a contest to name the boat and after much discussion, the name FRIENDSHIP was selected. If you are a boater or just friends with someone who has a boat, you will most likely see the VBYC pontoon boat out and about on the Indian River Lagoon.
90th Anniversary & Recognition by the City of Vero Beach: In January 2016, the Vero Beach Yacht Club celebrated its 90th anniversary, having been chartered in January 1926. Jay Kramer, Mayor of the City of Vero Beach proclaimed January 14, 2016, as Very Beach Yacht Club Day due to this special event.
